Capital One continues to grow one of our favorite reward programs. Starting Feb. 27, 2024, Capital One Travel has added vacation rentals to their Premier and Lifestyle property portfolios, with the same slate of benefits and perks offered to those who booked a hotel through either program.
More than 250 properties are currently available, with more slated to come in 2024, and include popular golf destinations like Scottsdale, AZ and Hilton Head, SC. The homes are currently curated by Boutiq and AvantStay. Both are luxury vacation rental home providers (think upscale Airbnb or VRBO) but rather than dealing with individual homeowners the homes are fully managed by the providers.

Great way to earn points, but how about for redeeming?
If you’re looking for a vacation house for your next golf trip booking through Capital One is a great way to earn 5x on your stay! But what about using points to redeem a stay? Is it still as good of a value?
To determine this I wanted to compare it to a recent trip I booked using Wyndham Points through Vacasa. If you’re unfamiliar with this Capital One and Wyndham are transfer partners. And Wyndham has an additional partnership with Vacasa that allows you to redeem their points at Vacasa properties for 15,000 Wyndham points per bedroom, per night.
Me and my golf buddies booked a beautiful 4-bedroom home on Kiawah Island for 3 nights for just 162k points. Be sure to read our full review of the Wyndham and Vacasa relationship here!
Unfortunately, there are no homes available on Kiawah for a direct comparison just yet. But, I went to the next best thing just further down the coast to Hilton Head Island, another golfers paradise!
Using the same nights I was able to find the Wisteria by AvantStay. A comparable 4-bedroom house located just a short walking distance to both golf courses and the beach!
For a 3-night stay you would be looking at a total of $2,739. Which is cheaper than the home we booked at just under $3,200. But, the new Vacation Rentals through Capital One are only at a 1:1 redemption value so this stay would set you back 273,942 miles.
Capital One miles are valued anywhere from 1.4 to 1.7 cents a mile when you take into consideration the value you can get with transfer partners. At just 1 cent a mile on Vacation Homes this isn’t the best value for your points.
I would personally look to book this with my Venture X card and earn almost 14k points for doing so! But, if this makes your dream golf trip a reality by booking on your points I say go for it! It may be the bare minimum value you can get but at the end of the day they’re your points, use them how YOU want!
